October 10, 2011.

“Men, in general, like the Three Stooges, but the Movember movement is looking for those males willing to become curly, hairy or mo.

Facial hair growth is the goal with prostate cancer support organizations being the beneficiaries of the efforts of men to become hirsute.

The Burlington Theta Omega Mo, a group of mostly men (Mo Bros) and some women (Mo Sisters), is having a launch party for Movember tomorrow (Saturday) at 9 p.m. at The Rude Native restaurant, 370 Brant St.

Movember is an international event where men grow moustaches of whatever size and shape they want for the month of November. Participants get people to pledge a donation, with funds raised going to the Movember group and Prostate Cancer Canada.

“In our fifth year of brotherhood, the Burlington Chapter of Theta Omega Mo is passionate about raising awareness for prostate cancer and ultimately changing the face of men’s health,” said Brad Hails, captain of Theta Omega Mo Burlington chapter.

“Our goal is to get men to grow moustaches by creating an innovative, fun and engaging campaign that raises funds and awareness,” he said.

Originating in Burlington, the Theta Omega Mo network raised more than $50,000 last year, $21,000 of that from the Burlington chapter alone.

Last year, the Burlington chapter had about 130 members with about 400 total members across North America.

There will be a pre-Movember Modown shaving event on Sunday, Oct. 30 at Pure Salon in Upper Canada Place in downtown Burlington where men will prepare their faces for a month of growth.” - InsideHalton
