The time of year is quickly approaching for all of you who know, that a group of us attempt to raise money and tear down the shroud of silence between Men and Men’s Prostate health.
This cause is very dear to me as one of my team mates and friends was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer 2yrs ago. He allowed the symptoms he was having to persist for over 6 months before seeking help. By that time his tumour had grown to the size of a grapefruit. After over a year of heavy Chemo and Radiation twice a week, he ended up on the right side of the rugby pitch. I am happy to say that my friend is a survivor and here with us today to tell his story.
I, as do many members of my team, find it outrageous that as Men we find it hard to talk about our bodies and health. We can shower together 3 times a week after practice. In the locker room we can talk about everything from Sex to Cars to Recipes to Sex (That’s right ladies, we have our sex in the city moments too!) but the one thing we can’t talk about is the most important thing of all…., Our Health!
What many people don't know is that 1 in 6 men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime. Prostate cancer is the most common cancer to afflict Canadian men with 25,500 diagnosed and 4,400 dying from the disease each year. Facts like these have convinced us we need to get involved!
We have Created ΘΩ (Theta Omega Mo’) in hopes of becoming the largest brotherhood brought together by bad facial hair. I need your support to do this, Not only do i ask for your donation...I need you to talk…..and talk to everyone…about Men’s prostate health. Talk to Mothers, Wives, Children, Sons, Husbands and Fathers and inform them of the dangers of silence. I ask you to look at your own health, book a physical and encourage others to do the same.
